Africa Finale

A huge thank you to all of the parents for coming to our finale. The children were fantastic teachers for the afternoon. They completed many activities to do with Africa and habitats. Well done!

Pond Visit

We have spent some time at the pond to see the new life springing into action!

Outside PE

Striking and Fielding

We have managed to take advantage of the nice weather and did our first PE lesson outside. We were practising our skills of hitting balls using rounders bats, fielding, throwing and catching.

Red Nose Day 2017

My class enjoyed wearing their red noses all day. The school raised £919.57 in total. Well done!

Science Day - Changes!

As part of Science Week, we investigated quite a  few experiments with the idea of how and why things change.

Making a rainbow
Using skittles we arranged them in a circle to make a pattern and then talked together about what we thought would happen once we added water. Some suggestions were "they will melt, they will disappear, they will go blurry."

We added the water and watched and waited.

We were very excited at the results. A rainbow of colours and white skittles.

Melting pot

Next was the experiment that everyone wanted to be part of ..
Trying to hold a chocolate button in our hand without it melting. We chose where to put the chocolate button on our hands and had to leave it for 10 minutes without touching it. The results were very different depending on where we put the buttons.

The palm of the hand proved to be a lot warmer than some of the other chosen places and therefore we found the results very different.

 Rainbow Colours

We also explored what happened when we added drops of water to felt pen colours, which ones created different colours and also which paper was the best to use to see the colours blend and spread.

These are just a few of the great investigations we did on the day, we all predicted results, worked together to explore the experiments and found results, some more surprising than others.

Ready Steady Read

It has been lovely to see so many parents coming in early and staying later on a Tuesday morning to spend time with their child. We have had lots of fun. I hope to see you all again soon!

Science Week 2017

Science Week 2017
My class explored many experiments...
Walking Water
We predicted what we thought would happen. Some children thought that it would grow legs and walk away! Interestingly, the water travelled up the kitchen roll and into the middle cup until the cups all had the same amount of water in them. The colour of the water was green in the middle cup too! We worked out that this was because you get green when you mix blue and yellow.
Skittles Rainbow
We poured warm water onto skittles to see what would happen. The colour came off the skittles and turned the water into a rainbow. The skittles turned white.

Make a Rainbow
We explored what would happen to a black felt tip pen dot on different paper. Our sketch book paper and sugar paper did noting except make a black puddle. The ink on the paper towel and tissue spread out. We noticed that we could see other colours. We saw pink, purple, yellow, blue and black. We tried other colours, but they did not change.

Floating Rainbow
First we put food colouring into some milk. Then we dipped a cotton bud into washing up liquid. When we put it into the milk, the colours moved away from it in a circle pattern.

Results of the walking water....

 Kitchen Chemistry
We wanted to talk about changing states. We used ingredients to make a dough and then cooked it to make bread. The children had to describe each state.

Flowers
We put some flowers into blue coloured water to see what would have. We have waited 3 days and nothing has happened yet!!!!!

Shadow Fun
Luckily, Wednesday was a sunny day so we could complete this experiment. We went outside every hour to see what would happen to a shadow. We noticed that it got shorter each hour in the morning and longer in the afternoon. It took us a while to realise that it was the sun that helped make the shadows outside and that the sun moves across the sky during the day.
