We love books!

The children in Mrs Alston’s and Mrs Cotton’s classes had a lovely reading session together, sharing a wonderful range of Christmas stories.

Ask your children what was their favourite story.
They might have a few to add to their wish list now.

Consolidating learning at home

It's wonderful to see the children being enthusiastic about their learning and consolidating at home.

Smarties make wonderful manipulatives...... and they are a delicious treat at the end of the homework task 😃

Year 1/2 Wow Day

Year 1 / 2 had a great day kick starting our Villains, Heroes and Heroines topic.  They all looked
amazing in their costumes.  In Mrs Cotton's classroom the children learnt about "everyday heroes" and how you don't have to have a cape and a mask to be a hero.

Look at the children taking on the roles of vets, nurses, doctors, teachers and fire fighters . . . . they had a wonderful time.
The children are all excited about the work we will be doing learning about heroes and heroines from the past........ Ask them if they can remember the famous people that we are going to be learning about.

Never too young to enjoy a good book !

The children enjoyed sharing their Ready Steady Read time with a young visitor........who was very willing to listen to their stories!

Outdoor Classroom Day 2019

We took part in Outdoor Classroom Day 2019 by enjoying maths, phonics and guided reading outside. We took the opportunity to remind ourselves of some sun safety rules given we have been so blessed with the weather!

In Maths we showed our understanding of halving and quartering shapes and identified 1 half and 1 quarter in the shapes we drew.

In phonics we worked on spotting those tricky split digraphs and in guided reading we enjoyed sharing our favourite books.

The lifecycle of a butterfly.

We have been excited by the arrival of caterpillars in our classroom. We have enjoyed observing them as the eat and eat and eat and continue to grow very big!

We have creatively explored the lifecycle of a butterfly, using different pasta shapes on a paper plate to show the different stages of a butterfly's metamorphosis.

We also produced some super writing and drawings explaining the process.

Jack and the Beanstalk

We have introduced our learning about Fairy Tales and Traditional Tales by reading Jack and the Beanstalk.

We have been working on retelling the story using actions. We have worked really hard to try and remember the whole story using a story map to help us follow Jack's journey.

Here is a video of our first try at telling the story all the way through! We gave it a really good go! Well done!

Wow! Growth and Change!

What an amazing start to our new topic of growth and change!

We have worked through a carousel of activites in the 5 year 1/2 classrooms and outside taking part in a range of activities such as minibeast hunts, plant identification, seed planting, barefoot walks and making wormeries!

In 1B we planted seeds.

We planted a special type of sunflower called a Teddy Bear Sunflower!

This is what it will look like when it grows ...

We look forward to seeing how you all get on growing them.

Growth and Change Wow Day

As an introduction to our new topic the children had a fun-filled day exploring different textures on our senses walk.  They walked through soft sand, squelchy mud, smooth pebbles, cool water,  coarse grass, leaves and spongy bark.  It was all very exciting!!  They collected vocabulary to describe what they felt and back in class were able to access an online thesaurus to see if they could find any more impressive synonyms..........ask them if they can remember any of the wonderful vocabulary we found.

They also had a great time exploring our Nature Area, identifying a range of plants and having their very own minibeast hunt.

The children also took part in making a wormery, although due to the sunny weather we have had lately we struggled to find worms to live in their fantastic new homes!!

They designed butterfly gardens, made their own plant pots and planted seeds but I think their favourite part of the day was meeting our new school pets.  Watch this space for their new names !!

It was great fun.

Our wonderful day out.

What  a fantastic day we had last Wednesday at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.  From the beautiful sunny weather, the exciting coach journey, the variety of different animals we saw and the wonderful behaviour of our children.
It was a really lovely experience and all the children represented our school brilliantly. We all went home tired, but very happy.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

We have had such fun today! The weather has been particularly kind and allowed us to enjoy the day to its full! We managed to get around the whole park. We also enjoyed an informative classroom session where we explored our knowledge of animals and their habitats! We even got the opportunity to hold some of the animals if we wanted to!

What an amazing day out! We should all sleep well tonight.

  World Book Day Fun
We spent a lovely day sharing our favourite stories and books with each other and then we were lucky enough to have stories written for us by Mr Batley's class. It was great fun listening to them and seeing lots of well known characters turn up in their stories!
