PE - playing dodge ball

In PE we have been practising sending and receiving balls.

We have pushed balls along the ground, bounced them, thrown them and kicked them!
On Friday we played a game of dodge ball. We had to think about how we would send the ball into the opponents' half and then how we could avoid any balls that were heading towards us!

Den building

We have been busy using our DT skills making dens in our outside classroom. We had to think about how we would keep the coverings up so we could crawl inside.

Sharing our love of books.

We spent a very pleasant time sharing some new books that we have recently received. Finding old favourites and discovering  new authors and characters together was great fun.
Some of us enjoyed reading alone, others chatted and explored the same book, Finding Wally proved to be a very popular choice!

Living things in science

In science, 1/2GB have been learning about living things, non-living things and things that were once alive. We went on a hunt around the school grounds to find things that would fit into these groups. In the nature area, we were all very excited to find a baby frog! Click the link below to watch the video we took of the baby frog.

Colour Mixing

In 1/2GB, we've been learning about primary colours and how to mix primary colours to make other colours. Click the photo below to look at the rest of our photos to see the fun we had!

ICT

The children have shown true resilience over the past few weeks.  They have been learning to program little Fuzz Balls in the Kodable App and the highest levels even challenged the teachers!!

We didn't give up though, we were Resilient Rhinos and also needed to be Teamwork Toucans, helping each other and sharing our knowledge and expertise.

Den Building

During PPA afternoons the children have been doing some work in preparation for Design and Technology.  They have worked really well together to try and build shelters.
They found out that to be Successful Snakes they had to be Teamwork Toucans and Resilient Rhinos!!

Colour Mixing

The children have been learning about Primary and Secondary colours and how to make all sorts of different colours.  Here are a few pictures of the children independently investigating colour mixing with the paints.

We love Reading in Year 2

In Mrs Cotton's class lots of children chose one of their favourite chapter books at home, wrapped it up and wrote clues for the children to guess what it was all about.  The children then found out a little bit more about each of the books by reading their blurbs and some extracts from the books.  Then it was voting time! It took us a few sessions to get it down to our chosen book, as there were so many interesting books that the children had brought in, but finally we had a winner........ DEMON DENTIST by David Walliams.

We are nearly half way through it already as the children are really enjoying the story.

Learning to learn

Being Curious Cats, asking questions to further our own
                                                                                             knowledge.

Showing that we can be Teamwork Toucans and Resilient Rhinos, not giving up even if it is hard !

It feels great to do something that you are proud of.......                              and be a Proud Peacock !

Welcome to Year 2

The children all had a wonderful first week in Year 2, learning about how we learn and getting to know each other.

Learning to learn characters

The children have been exploring the different ways in which we can become effective learners. To help us, we have introduced our learning characters : Have  a go Hippo, Resilient Rhino, Proud Peacock, Curious Cat, Teamwork Toucan and Memorable Meerkat. We enjoyed lots of different activities to help us develop all these skills and learning styles.
