We were asked by Florence Nightingale to investigate which materials would be best used to make tents. 

Florence needs tents to take to the Crimean War but she does not know which materials would be best for the tents. She asked us to investigate which materials are waterproof, light and strong. We used water to test it out.

Matthew Henson Role Play

We have been learning about the explorer, Matthew Henson, during our literacy and topic time. He was one of the first men to reach the North Pole. We've really enjoyed learning about him. As part of our lessons about using question marks accurately, we did some hot seating to help us generate questions. One of us sat in the "hot seat" and took on the role of Matthew Henson and the other took on the role of the interviewer. The interviewer asked Matthew questions and "Matthew" had to use his or her imagination and reply to the question. We had great fun! Have a look at the photos of our hot seating!
