Beegu

The Year 1 children have really enjoyed exploring the book ‘Beegu’ over the past couple of weeks. From investigating the crash site to making their very own Beegu’s, as well as producing some lovely writing about Beegu and her feelings.

Year 2 having fun with contractions

The year 2 children had great fun learning how words can be contracted to form new words. They loved using the Lego bricks to show off their new knowledge.

Times Tables Rock Stars

Even though the TTRS competition was aimed at the older children in school, these children all worked really hard and received special certificates for their efforts.

Well done everyone, you will be amazing when you get to Key Stage Two.

Three Little Pigs Science

Three Little Pigs Science

Last week we tested the properties of different materials in our science experiment. After reading the Three Little Pigs, we decided to see if we could find a better material for their houses. The ideal material had to be waterproof and windproof.

We tested fabric, metal (foil), paper, sugar cube bricks and plastic (Duplo).

The children predicted that the metal would be the best because it is waterproof. Fabric would be the worst because it was not waterproof.

The metal house withstood the rain and the pig stayed happy and dry, although it did nearly blow away in the wind!

It was a different story for the poor pig in his paper house. He got soaked! The paper house was not waterproof. It did withstand the wind very well though (thanks to a large quantity of selotape!)

Oh dear, the sugar cube bricks didn't stop the rain getting in. The group agreed that the cubes were really challenging to build with too.

The fabric performed as expected, it blew over in the wind and let all the rain through. Sorry little pig!

The best house was the plastic house made from Duplo. The Hedgehogs made a fabulous house that was both strong in the wind and waterproof in the rain. That's one happy little pig!

Well done Year 1!

Breaking News from Y1

BREAKING NEWS!

Last week a strange object crash landed in the KS1 outside classroom! There were some mysterious yellow marks on the floor too. The children were mini detectives and investigated all the evidence; they concluded that it was an alien spaceship and the yellow marks were in fact footprints. They decided the pilot was an alien because its footprints were not like our, they were circular. Also they left a strange yellow glow. I wonder if the alien will appear round the school...

One of the children noticed that a package had fallen out of the spaceship during the crash. He bravely retrieved it and when we opened it we found out it was a book called Beegu by Alexis Deacon. We can't wait to read it!

Remembrance Day

The Year 2 children enjoyed an afternoon of art work based on our learning about Remembrance Day and why it is celebrated. Their poppy paintings and drawing were amazing and they read and followed instructions really well to make their own poppies.
