Three Little Pigs Science

Three Little Pigs Science

Last week we tested the properties of different materials in our science experiment. After reading the Three Little Pigs, we decided to see if we could find a better material for their houses. The ideal material had to be waterproof and windproof.

We tested fabric, metal (foil), paper, sugar cube bricks and plastic (Duplo).

The children predicted that the metal would be the best because it is waterproof. Fabric would be the worst because it was not waterproof.

The metal house withstood the rain and the pig stayed happy and dry, although it did nearly blow away in the wind!

It was a different story for the poor pig in his paper house. He got soaked! The paper house was not waterproof. It did withstand the wind very well though (thanks to a large quantity of selotape!)

Oh dear, the sugar cube bricks didn't stop the rain getting in. The group agreed that the cubes were really challenging to build with too.

The fabric performed as expected, it blew over in the wind and let all the rain through. Sorry little pig!

The best house was the plastic house made from Duplo. The Hedgehogs made a fabulous house that was both strong in the wind and waterproof in the rain. That's one happy little pig!

Well done Year 1!
