Using manipulatives

The year 2 children have been learning about multiplication. They all had great fun using manipulatives in maths today to help them get to grips with arrays.
Why don’t you carry on this learning at home and ask the children to show you how to make arrays for multiplication calculations you give them.

We love books!

The children in Mrs Alston’s and Mrs Cotton’s classes had a lovely reading session together, sharing a wonderful range of Christmas stories.

Ask your children what was their favourite story.
They might have a few to add to their wish list now.

Counting pence.

We have loved using the coins to count pence! You could practise this at home by counting what is in the grown ups purse/wallet!

Consolidating learning at home

It's wonderful to see the children being enthusiastic about their learning and consolidating at home.

Smarties make wonderful manipulatives...... and they are a delicious treat at the end of the homework task 😃

Year 1/2 Wow Day

Year 1 / 2 had a great day kick starting our Villains, Heroes and Heroines topic.  They all looked
amazing in their costumes.  In Mrs Cotton's classroom the children learnt about "everyday heroes" and how you don't have to have a cape and a mask to be a hero.

Look at the children taking on the roles of vets, nurses, doctors, teachers and fire fighters . . . . they had a wonderful time.
The children are all excited about the work we will be doing learning about heroes and heroines from the past........ Ask them if they can remember the famous people that we are going to be learning about.

Never too young to enjoy a good book !

The children enjoyed sharing their Ready Steady Read time with a young visitor........who was very willing to listen to their stories!

Outdoor Classroom Day 2019

We took part in Outdoor Classroom Day 2019 by enjoying maths, phonics and guided reading outside. We took the opportunity to remind ourselves of some sun safety rules given we have been so blessed with the weather!

In Maths we showed our understanding of halving and quartering shapes and identified 1 half and 1 quarter in the shapes we drew.

In phonics we worked on spotting those tricky split digraphs and in guided reading we enjoyed sharing our favourite books.
