Money, money, money!

We have loved exploring the coins this week as we begin to develop our understanding of money.

Today we practised making given amounts with the coins and we saw how many different ways we could make an amount!

We have loved exploring clay this afternoon! After watching a video of a potter making a vase on a potter’s wheel, we explored how we can use clay with our hands.

We rolled balls and snakes with our hands. We practised squeezing and pulling and pinching the clay. We smoothed our clay and attempted to join pieces together. We explored how water can help us do this!

Continents and Oceans

The Year 2 bubble have enjoyed using atlases to find the 7 continents and 5 oceans.

We then used cut and stick to make our own maps.

Do you know the names of the 7 continents and 5 oceans?

Learning about our amazing world with Craig Richardson

The children in Year 2 were very lucky on Monday as they all had the opportunity to join Craig Richardson via Zoom to hear all about his adventures, which have spanned 3 continents.  The children loved hearing about his adventures and asked some amazing questions.

Craig, who is a teacher at a local secondary school, was also very impressed with the children's knowledge of the world.

Take a look at the photos and see if your children can tell you some of the facts that they learnt.

Making groups

The children have been working hard in school to make equal and unequal groups. The children have used manipulatives to gain a concrete understanding.

Home Learning

Thank you for sharing your super work with me, it is lovely to see lots of the children working hard at home.

Christmas Messages from Us All at Fosse Way

 Dear Parents and Carers,

It is such a shame that we couldn’t put on our traditional Christmas shows this year and welcome you into school to watch them. I know from speaking to so many parents and grandparents over the years that these occasions are cherished and really put us all in the festive spirit. I am sure that we will resume such events as soon as possible next year, so I look forward to those times.

Below is a link to an online folder with Christmas messages, songs and poems from the different teams in school – I hope you enjoy them. Click the link to the folder and select the film for your child’s year group.

Click here for our video folder

We’ve certainly had a year like no other, and surely next year we will once again enjoy the freedoms that make life more vibrant, interesting and fun for us all. Whilst we, as adults, can lament the changes we have had to endure, I feel most sorry for the children. They deserve to have a childhood; to play with friends, to mix with family, to be in school and gain an education, to be worry free. As we enter the Christmas holiday and start to think about the New Year, these are the things on my list to Santa!

On behalf of all of us at Fosse Way, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Take care

Rob Cowling

Beegu

The Year 1 children have really enjoyed exploring the book ‘Beegu’ over the past couple of weeks. From investigating the crash site to making their very own Beegu’s, as well as producing some lovely writing about Beegu and her feelings.
